Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips Pecans

Whenever I make Banana Bread I always get asked if the recipe is on my blog.  Well I’m finally posting it!  If you love banana bread and chocolate then you will love this recipe.  If you love pecans as much as I do then you will really love this recipe.  There’s something about chocolate and pecans that make me go crazy.  Add them to an old favorite like Banana Bread and you have a match made in dessert heaven.

I found this recipe in Bon Appétit magazine over ten years ago in the Too Busy to Cook column and as soon as I saw the chocolate chips in the recipe I tore it out immediately.  I always put pecans in my banana bread but never chocolate chips so I was very excited to try it and have been baking this recipe ever since.  This is a simple, perfectly moist banana bread and the chocolate chips and pecans just take it to another level.  Better than any banana bread I’ve ever tasted that’s for sure.  The original recipe called for walnuts but I’m not a big walnut fan so decided to use pecans.  I know this will become your favorite banana bread recipe too!

Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips and Pecans

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup pecans, whole or chopped (I like them whole)
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter at room temperature
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1 cup mashed ripe bananas
2 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Cooking Instructions:  makes 1 9-inch loaf

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Butter and flour 9 x 5 x 2 1/2 inch loaf pan.  Whisk first four ingredients in medium bowl to blend.  Combine chocolate chips and pecans in small bowl, add 1 Tablespoon flour mixture and toss to coat.

Beat butter in bowl of a stand mixer until fluffy.  Gradually add sugar, beating until well blended.  Beat in eggs 1 at a time.  Beat in mashed bananas, lemon juice and vanilla extract.  Beat in flour mixture.  Spoon 1/3 of batter into prepared pan.  Sprinkle with half of nut mixture.  Spoon 1/3 of batter over.  Sprinkle with remaining nut mixture.  Cover with remaining batter.

Bake bread until tester inserted into center comes out clean, about 1 hour.  Turn out onto rack and cool.
